Be a Smith by Lisa Buffaloe

Blacksmiths were an integral part of colonial America. Every facet of life was touched by this profession—from horseshoes for transportation, weapons and iron gates for protection, and tools and accessories for cooking.

According to Webster’s 1828 Dictionary, a Smith is “literally, the striker, the beater; hence, one who forges with the hammer; one who works in metals; as an iron-smith; gold-smith; silver-smith.”

Writers are wordsmiths. We design and forge words to give reader takeaways—providing beats of prose to strike a point. Words of truth provide fortification and protection. And words cook up new ideas and thoughts to digest and nourish. I try to craft words that carry God’s light to a world engulfed in darkness, words that break open new truths and accomplish Heavenly purposes.

You too are a Smith. You've been forged by God and refined like gold. You've been gifted with the power of speech or writing to ignite a burning fire within those you meet to leave a legacy of God’s love.

Heavenly Father help me to be the best at what You have called me to do. Forge in me Your truth, so I may forge in others the truth of Your grace, mercy, and love.
